Our first week has come and gone. On one hand it seems to have flown by and on the other hand it seems like it has been more like a month. I'm still having trouble believing that this perfect little boy is mine. It's true that you really can't explain how much you love this little person you've only known for a short period of time.
We had an interesting first week. We stayed at the hospital for two nights and we didn't get much sleep the first night. Aiden is a loud sleeper and I am a light sleeper. The second night I asked the nurses to take him to the nursery for a few hours. It killed me to do so, but I knew I had better get some sleep. We were released from the hospital on the morning of November 13th. We were excited about getting out of there, but nervous about what lie ahead. My mom came to help out that afternoon. She was a huge help. She cleaned the entire house (two or three times, I think) and cooked for us. Basically we didn't have to worry about anything but taking care of our son, so that was great!
Friday morning I was changing Aiden's diaper and noticed what looked like blood. I of course freaked out and we went to see the doctor that same day. It turns out it was something called brick dust. It literally looks like orange dust in the diaper. It happens when the baby isn't getting enough milk and is common with babies before the mother's milk comes in. Once we started feeding more often that went away.
Then Sunday I noticed that his right eye was leaky. Every time I would wake him up at night it was crusted over. We went back to the doctor on Monday and got some eye drops to clear up the infection.
Shawn and I are trying to get Aiden on a schedule as quickly as possible and so far we're on the right track. Shawn is a lot better at getting Aiden to wake up and play, so once he goes back into the office, I'm not sure how good I'll be.
I have to take a moment to brag on Shawn a little. He is an amazing Daddy. You can just see how much he loves his son and loves spending time with him. There is nothing sexier than a man who loves his family. Aiden and I are so blessed!!
