In the Beginning...

Shawn and I decided to start trying to conceive right after Christmas. We are both so ready to become parents and we just couldn't wait any longer. I took my first pregnancy test today. My "Pregnancy Journal" said that if I were pregnant, today would be the first day the early detection pregnancy tests would be able to detect it. I was warned that they aren't very accurate this early (5 days before my period), but I just couldn't wait. The test was negative. Even though I knew it was a long shot, I can't help but feel let down.

I went to the gynecologist for my annual exam on Thursday (January 10, 2008), and told the doctor that we were "trying." She recommended I have a blood test to determine if I had antibodies for Rubella (German measles). If I don't have the antibodies I will have to make the decision about whether to get a shot (In which case we would have to wait three months to try again), or to just risk getting Rubella. If I'm pregnant now, however, it'll be a moot point. I just hope I have the antibodies.
